    HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Earlier this month there were several dogs found living in deplorable conditions, after their owner, Mary King, 68, was found dead. The sheriff says he found feces and trash spread throughout the house. Thirty-one dogs were rescued from the home and taken to the Hardin County Animal Shelter in Elizabethtown. Several of the pups are looking for a new home.

    HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- The man convicted of killing his co-worker is scheduled to be sentenced this week. Joshua Ratliff was found guilty, but mentally ill back in March. He shot and killed Ryan Birse, 22, as Birse packed chicken in the Elizabethtown KFC/Taco Bell. A co-worker testified the two fought a few days before the shooting. The jury recommended a 55-year sentence for Ratliff. The News Enterprise reports Ratliff will be sentenced Tuesday.

    LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A mattress caught fire in an apartment on Ross Avenue in downtown Lexington around 11 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters say the fire didn't take long to put out, but the woman who lived inside kept screaming and trying to get back in to save her cats. Regina Watson was eventually arrested, charged with intoxication and disorderly conduct. Firefighters say they were able to safely rescue the cats and there is minimal damage to the apartment.

Officials say the crash happened about one Sunday morning on North Broadway near the Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Police say the red pickup truck that hit the cyclist drove off after the crash. They are hoping to track it down using surveillance video from nearby businesses.  The cyclist was sent to the hospital with injuries.

The messages were saved to the juveniles phone. Elam was charged with distribution of obscene matter to minors. This was his first offense.

Police say around 2:00 a.m. someone reported the toddler wandering along Cross Keys Road.  They say they were able to meet up with the caller and get the child into a safe home for the night.  Around 8 a.m. a woman called police to report a missing 2-year-old.  Police were able to get the child returned to it's family a short time later.

    LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A woman said she took matters into her own hands when two people burst into her home. The victim told deputies that around 6:30 Friday night on Old Union Church Road in Laurel County two women knocked on her door. They then forced their way in and assaulted her. She said she thought she was able to stab one with a sword. The two ran off and nothing was taken. Deputies are still looking for the intruders.

    LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A man has been arrested following an early morning robbery. Arthur William Auxier, 48, was taken into custody around 2:15 Thursday morning after stealing three pairs of shoes from the Kroger on Richmond Road. Police say Auxier was attempting to conceal the merchandise by hiding them in the front of his pants.  Auxier has been charged with second degree robbery and possession of burglary tools.

Lexington police were notified by UK police that a man in his 20s had showed up at the hospital around 3:30 a.m. The victim told police he was driving on Centre Parkway and while at a stop sign, a red car pulled up beside him and fired a single shot into the vehicle, hitting him. He has non life-threatening injuries from a single gunshot wound.

    The chase with Louisville Metro Police started about 2:15 Thursday afternoon.

    Officers had tried to stop Stuart Timmonds, 34, in Louisville's Portland neighborhood.

Police say they found William Cole, 26, with life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died. Police say their forensics team reviewed the scene, but at this time a motive for the shooting is unclear and they have no suspects.
