Annual Jobless Rates Fall In 86 Of Kentucky's 120 Counties

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky officials say annual unemployment rates fell in 86 of the state's counties in 2016 compared to 2015. Annual rates rose in 26 counties and stayed the same in eight. The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training says Woodford County had the state's lowest annual jobless rate in 2016 at 3.2 percent. LAUREL COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A woman has been arrested and charged with two counts of assault after deputies say she hit two people with her car. Deputies say that Rhonda Mays had allegedly gone to a home of Willie Cheek Road and asked to borrow money from the residents. ADAIR COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A man has been arrested and charged in a fatal crash in Adair County that happened back in March. The crash happened on KY 61 on March 11. KSP says that 52-year-old Samuel Edwards was driving when he lost control of the vehicle and left the shoulder of the roadway. WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Crews in Whitley County had to perform three water rescues Sunday night following flash flooding in southeastern Kentucky. Emergency Management Officials say that a man was swept away in high water while camping on the banks of the Cumberland River. He waited on his air mattress to be rescued by crews. Kentucky Doctor Sentenced in Medicaid Fraud Case

(AP) - A Kentucky doctor convicted of Medicaid fraud has been sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay more than $10,000 in restitution.     Authorities say 58-year-old Dr. Ezekiel O. Akande of Somerset was sentenced late last week by Pulaski Circuit Court Judge David A. (EKB NEWS) - Heavy rain has caused flooding and runoff into Fishtrap Lake in Pike County EKB News reports that officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fishtrap Dam say they have made changes to the outflow from spillways at area dams in an effort to keep rivers downstream from flooding. Last week, 1-year-old Aria Blanton had to be airlifted to UK hospital after she was found with severe injuries. WAVE 3 News reports that officers were called to the 300 block of North 38th Street, also known as the Shawnee neighborhood. Reportedly when they arrived they found a 17-year-old female who was shot. PULASKI COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A Wayne County couple walked free out of a Pulaski County courtroom Friday. Jarred Futrell and Kayla Lord were found guilty of reckless homicide in the 2011 death of Lord’s 18-month-old son Staten Stephenson. Doctors say that Stephenson had no brain activity.     FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) - People from across Kentucky spent the afternoon planting pinwheels at the capitol Saturday. It’s all a part of an effort to bring awareness to child abuse. Families that have dealt with child abuse personally were there to support Kylie Jo's Law. The law would require people convicted of physically abusing a child to register, similar to sex offenders. The families hope the pinwheels at the capitol will motivate lawmakers to take action.
