Many people in Franklin, Scott, Shelby, and Woodford Counties are still without power as of midnight Saturday.
Police directing traffic at Hwy. 60 and 421 told LEX 18 a downed powerline at that intersection may have been the cause of the widespread outage.
The outage affects customers with Kentucky Utilities, Blue Grass Energy, and Frankfort Plant Board.
KU officials said close to 6,000 customers were affected and crews would be working throughout the night to restore power.
The number of outages with B.G.E. and F.P.B. are still unknown.
According to Kentucky State Police, a shelter is being prepared at the Frankfort Civic Center, but crews are hopeful power will be restored before that shelter will need to be opened.
