2 Cities Certified As Cultural Districts

MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two more Kentucky cities have been certified by the state as cultural districts, bringing the total number to six.

The Ledger Independent (http://bit.ly/107t6im ) reports that first lady Jane Beshear made the announcement that Maysville in northeastern Kentucky and Bardstown in central Kentucky have made the list. The other communities already certified by the state include Berea, Covington, Danville and Paducah.

State Rep. Mike Denham said last week that the certification will bring state and national recognition to Maysville because the Kentucky Cultural District program has had so much success. Denham said it should also bring economic benefits.

Mike Thomas, chairman of the Maysville Cultural District committee, said it was an honor to get the recognition.
