The mother of a 3-year-old girl attacked by a dog Saturday night at a Harrison County gathering tells LEX 18, her daughter has been released from UK Hospital.
Pictures of Emmaleigha Kelly, 3, from the hospital show her ear was ripped apart and her face was scratched up. She received 18 stitches in her ear and cheek, along with plastic surgery to repair her ear.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, the attack happened Saturday around 5 p.m. at a graduation party on Rutland Road.
Katy Baker, Emmaleigha's mother told LEX 18, her daughter was playing with her two-year-old sister, when the dog suddenly rushed in her direction, knocking her sister to the ground and attacked Emmaleigha.
"I was definitely in shock," Baker said, recounting the events she told LEX 18, happened suddenly. "I felt so hopeless as a mother, you know, scared myself, but afraid that this dog was going to probably snatch her throat or something. I just blacked out and took off running to get this dog away."
Baker identified the dog's owner as a family friend.
Sheriff's deputies said the dog's owner took off with the dog after the incident and was tracked down a short time later. The dog involved has been quarantined.
While sheriff's deputies said no charges had been filed against the dog's owner, Baker told LEX 18, she does plan to file charges against him.
