An Adair County preacher has been arrested and charged with various sex crimes.

Carlos Mendez-Almendra, 42, of Columbia has been indicted in Taylor and Adair Counties for sex crimes. Mendez-Almendra was indicted by the Taylor County Grand Jury for first-degree sexual abuse and intimidating a witness and by the Adair County Grand Jury for first-degree rape and sexual misconduct in related cases.

The investigation is on-going and the indictments are the result of complaints filed in mid April of this year. Mendez-Almendra was the preacher at a Spanish speaking church, Apostoles Prophetas, on Ky 531 in Adair County. The church has been closed.
