Police say alcohol and slippery roads led to a pair of accidents in Lexington early Friday morning.
Officers continue to search for a driver who apparently slid on a slick patch, brought down a utility pole and then ran from the scene.
Police say several people saw the crash happen at South Upper Street and Bolivar Street around 2 a.m. Witnesses said they saw a man wearing a gray hoodie run away from the wrecked SUV. Officers on the scene said they think the crash was probably weather related, but they did find open alcohol containers in the vehicle.
Police say a man driving along Man O' War Boulevard was likely drunk when he hit a slick spot between Rapid Run and Trent Boulevard, and lost control of his SUV about an hour later. The vehicle hit a light pole, then continued on for about 75 yards, hopped the curb and crashed into a plank fence. One plank pierced the driver's side door.
EMS took the driver to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
No word on whether he will face charges.
