If you have been following America's Got Talent, you know about a guy from Madison County named Joe Castillo who made it to the finals. He didn't win, but that doesn't mean he's done with the show.
Castillo, the sandman from Richmond who tells stories with sand, has had a roller coaster ride of success on the show. "At that moment when Howie Mandel said Joe Castillo and pointed at me you feel that surge of adrenaline," he said.
What got him through to the finals his wispy moving works of sand art, and something else according to Castillo. "When I tells stories that engage people, I think it can make a difference in their lives," he said. "I think that's what was working for me."
While he didn't win the whole thing, Castillo is still going to be a big deal in Las Vegas. "They pulled us aside, picked a few of the people that had gone on to the finals and said, 'we want you to be a part of the Las Vegas show.' That was a surprise," he said.
Another surprise was Castillo mania has descended on Richmond and around the country, especially with his beret - something he's had fun with on the show with the judges. He now has "Go Joe Beret" Facebook fans, even giving a bunch of berets to some online fans. But as for his sand box talent, Castillo seems to have the market cornered.
Castillo will head to Vegas in a few days for the A.G.T. Vegas show. It runs from September 26 to November 17. For more information, click here.
