Officials at Georgetown College say they are investigating students who reportedly tortured and killed a opossum.

The dean of students says a group, including some student athletes, killed the animal on campus and posted photos on the Internet about two weeks ago.

"We're aware that a group of students killed a possum on our campus. My understanding is that it was killed with a shovel. We've addressed the situation and are handling it as a family matter."

School officials would not comment on possible punishments.
