A Kentucky State Police child abuse investigation lead to the arrest of Derek N. Hartley, 26, of Lawrenceburg. He was charged with two counts of first degree assault.

The investigation began Nov. 4, when KSP received a child abuse complaint involving a 10-month-old child from Anderson County. University of Kentucky Children Hospital first reported the suspected abuse to the Anderson County Department of Families Children.

Police arrested Hartley Thursday, Nov. 19, at 10:15 p.m. and lodged him in the Fayette County Detention Center. The child remains in the custody of other family members.

The Kentucky State Police investigation continues.
