Officials in Bell County said that numerous students who were released from county schools at 12:30 p.m. Thursday are stranded on eight school buses because of dangerous driving conditions in the area.
A person with the Bell County School Board told LEX 18 that eight school buses are stranded due to the slick road conditions and snow, and that "we have buses all over the place."
There is about three inches of snow in Pineville already. Officials say because the National Weather Service didn't issue a warning, they had school and got caught in the snow. Most schools dismissed around 12:30 p.m. There have been no school bus accidents, although one empty bus did slide into a ditch. Parents are picking up their kids, and official say the county roads department are being a tremendous help.
Dozens of wrecks have been reported in Bell County because of the weather, and the sheriff reports that along U.S. 25 East across Log Mountain, traffic is moving extremely slowly because of crashes.
