The high school grades of former UK basketball player Eric Bledsoe's are going to be investigated, according to Birmingham, Alabama school officials.
Birmingham School Superintendent Craig Witherspoon met Monday with Alabama High School Athletic Association officials regarding Bledsoe's grades. After the meeting, Witherspoon told the Birmingham News that there were enough questions to conduct an investigation.
"At this point, I think you'd have to consider it to be an investigation of an investigation," Witherspoon said.
Witherspoon believes that Bledsoe's eligibility was looked at last year.
"What I am going to be doing is re-evaluating or assessing what took place to ensure from our perspective the requirements and procedures set forth by the association were indeed followed."
What will be double checked are Bledsoe's transcript. Witherspoon wants to make sure they are correct.
"It is going to be going through documents and records," Witherspoon said. "More so than interviews with individuals and that type of thing. The piece that we will be focused on will be grades and how that relates to AHSAA eligibility. We want to make sure there is supporting documentation for his grades and making sure all the pieces line up."
The meeting lasted 90 minutes. Half of the time they discussed Bledsoe.
No time frame was given as to when Witherspoon would complete the review.
