A person was found dead in a makeshift living space in the basement of a Mercer County home Monday.
According to Harrodsburg Police, the body could have been in the house on Hillcrest Street for two years before it was discovered.
The body was discovered around 4 p.m. Monday and is believed to be that of a man. Police say there were no missing person's case that would match this death investigation.
Police say the home was rented by someone who moved out about two years ago and was apparently unaware this person was living there. They believe the person found dead is possibly a squatter. Newspapers and other materials found in the home lead police to believe the person had been living there since sometime in 2011.
The body was taken to the medical examiner's office and has not yet been identified. A medical examiner could most likely narrow down the time of death.
Foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is expected next week.
