Officials in several areas of the country are investigating after a bomb threat saying numerous bombs were planted across the country was called in to the headquarters of Carmike Cinemas movie chain.
A Lexington Fire Department spokesperson confirms the bomb threat was called in Friday morning to the corporate office in Columbus, Georgia claiming that multiple bombs have been planted at theaters across the country. The spokesperson said that a bomb-sniffing dog has been sent to the Carmike Theater on Maple Leaf Drive in Lexington as a precaution.
Middlesboro Police in Bell County say they had a manager at Carmike call 911 to request police to come out and check the theater in connection with the threat. Crews are on the scene there.
There are also numerous reports from across the country that other theaters are also being searched. Click here for a report in the Tennesseean about the threat in Springfield, Tennessee.
