The general manager of the Boone County Water District was arrested Friday and charged with abuse of public trust.
Phil Trzop, 62 of Walton, was arrested just before noon. A three-week investigation initially revealed Trzop used cash from the sales of scrap metal to give Christmas bonuses to employees. However, the more the detectives looked into it, they say the numbers just didn't match up. Trzop finally admitted to having money at his house and relinquished it to the detectives.
Abuse of public trust is a Class C felony punishable by 5-10 years in the state penitentiary. Trzop is being held in the Boone County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
