With a win over Vanderbilt next Saturday, the University of Kentucky will become bowl eligible.

More intriguing, if UK does earn a bowl berth, 12 seniors will make up the first Kentucky class to go to five consecutive bowl games.

Coach Joker Phillips told the Herald Leader maintaining that streak is important on several levels. A a bowl berth would give UK an extra month of practice time, valuable for developing young players. It also helps in the recruiting game. December is actually a big recruiting month with lots of campus visits.

"A lot of players in areas we recruit don't get to come to campus and see us play or practice," Phillips said. "Those recruiting weekends allow us to take them to practice, and that's an extra spring practice for our young kids."
