Ingredients
2 cups milk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups stale French bread cubes, 1/2 inch dice
1/2 cup raisins
2 eggs, beaten
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Sauce:
1 stick unsalted butter
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1/4 cup Bourbon
Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Scald the milk in a saucepan. Melt the butter in the hot milk and stir in the sugar. Place bread cubes in a medium mixing bowl. Pour milk over the bread and raisins, let stand for 15 minutes. Add the beaten eggs, salt, nutmeg, and vanilla. Bake uncovered in a well greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm, topped with Bourbon sauce
Sauce: Cream softened butter and sugar together until fluffy. Gradually add the Bourbon. Mix until well blended.
