A Lexington couple's upcoming wedding is the talk of the town. Eight-hundred people are expected to attend the block-party-style event. But instead of handing out wedding favors, the bride and groom will hand out canned food and clothing to people in need.

Tanya Ferguson and Christian Torp will host the entire East End and North Limestone neighborhoods at their wedding reception dinner at Duncan Park in Lexington on Sept. 4.

"We wanted our wedding to be about more than a dress and a fancy dinner, " says Ferguson. "We live in this community surrounded by people who work hard just to put a hot meal on their table. What better opportunity to care for our neighbors than at our wedding."

Ferguson serves the children in those neighborhoods by providing free Wednesday night meals, volunteers at East Seventh Street Kids Cafe and is part of an organization that rescues young girls from sex trafficking in Uganda. Torp formed his own law practice dedicated to providing affordable law services.

There is no charge to attend the reception and all guests are welcome to enjoy a hot meal together. in addition to the meal, guests can enjoy inflatables, carnival games and live entertainment. The local health department and Kentuckians for the Commonwealth will also be on hand.

The couple is accepting donations of food, meal service items, clothing and canned goods. Donations can be sent to P.O Box 861, Lexington, KY 40588 or call Tanya Ferguson at 859-684-8729.
