John Calipari is a coach and we all know how they like to spin things sometimes. Cal is one of the best spin artists in the business. He really likes this team and has said just that several times.
But at SEC media day on Thursday, he spun it a little far even for him. His team is not where he wants them to be, but they shouldn't be there right now. They are in the process. They've also heard plenty about how they will be competing for a national title, so maybe Cal was trying to take them down a notch.
"They can rate us high all they want, but there are 40, 50 or 60 teams right now we could not beat. Maybe more. Maybe 100, because we're just not ready to play a basketball game. We have no pace. We barely have an out-of-bounds play. If you pressed us, oh my gosh. And don't play a zone because we have no zone offense right now," said Calipari.
Cal continued on about the high ranking. He actually said there's no basis for Kentucky to be ranked that high and dare we say, he thinks it may be a little conspiracy?
"(The voters) did that on purpose (ranked UK high) to try and put pressure on us. I don't know; I think they're out of their minds."
