Does it feel like most of the regular season is gone?
Being No. 1 for the second time this season with UK's freshman quickly growing up seemed to have zero effect on the Cats beating Georgia 57-44 Tuesday on the road.
It seemed like just another game. Cal is happy to win and upset over the same things.
Is it possible this year's team, with a great 20-1 record, will never get the killer instinct Cal wants?
The Cats are good enough to win without following his entire game plan.
"I wanted us to go the middle more," says Cal. "We had guys who didn't want to go in there because it got a little rough."
That's a strong comment, but not surprising. And, it's something we've heard a number of times.
Cal's thought process is "let's get ready for March." What if UK plays someone like Syracuse for the national championship, they will be rough. So, you have to go in the middle when you play Georgia if that's what you coach wants you to do.
As far as the best players against Georgia, Darius Miller led the Cats with 19.
"Obviously you have Anthony (Davis). And we don't even mention him because he does the same thing and we don't throw him the ball. But Michael Gilchrist came up with balls, and rebounds, and plays. Darius Miller made shots and I thought Marquis Teague ran our ballclub."
Miller had a great night on offense. He missed only one shot. He missed no shots from downtown. But when Cal was talking about the best players, Miller's name didn't come up first. That's because he didn't like his defense and lack of rebounding.
Cal isn't an easy man to make happy.
