Just like clockwork, rumors of John Calipari leaving Kentucky for the NBA are becoming a yearly tradition. On Wednesday, UK's head coach once again reaffirmed Wednesday he has no plans to leave the Bluegrass anytime soon.
Calipari has warned fans plenty of times that any time an NBA job opens up, expect to hear his name floating around. Calipari's message to Wednesday was to relax.
On his website, www.coachcal.com, Calipari wrote that he's not letting the rumors steal his or his players' joy from winning the national championship - and he doesn't want it to affect Wildcat fans' joy either. Calipari wrote, "I'm not going anywhere. Why would I leave after we won a national title? We're trying to catch UCLA."
UCLA has won a record 11 national championships. UK is second, winning its eight Monday night.
Calipari says he'll continue to go to NBA games. and he'll even be at one Wednesday night fresh off winning his first title. And, with a high profile team like the New York Knicks searching for a coach, these rumors were expected.
