A top recruiter has joined the Alltech team as organizers hope to expand ticket sales before the World Equestrian Games kick off September 25.

While organizers of the games, which will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park, say ticket sales are on track, UK basketball coach John Calipari has bought into Alltech's Commonwealth Club at the games. It's a $10,000 package that includes private dinners and special WEG merchandise. Coach Cal says he wants to be involved in the international sporting event because he says what's good for the games is good for Kentucky.

"I have a lot of faith (in the games)," said Calipari. "Let's have some fun with this."

Studies estimate the local economic impact from WEG will be more than $150 million. Organizers say since the WEG have never been in the United States before, it's a little harder to sell what people will see here on starting September 25. That's why bringing in a power player like Calipari is needed.

"We need help and people to step up and tell the story," said Alltech president Dr. Pearse Lyons. "And one chance to make a first impression, and once it is done, it is done."

Calipari says he isn't sure if his players will also make it out to the WEG, He said his wife and son will be in attendance throughout the games.
