Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari on Tuesday was named Coach of the Year and freshman star John Wall was named Player of the Year in District IV by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association of America.
The district covers Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. There are nine regions from coast to coast and a player and coach of the year are selected in each.
UK freshman center DeMarcus Cousins and junior forward Patrick Patterson were also named to the All-District IV team.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956. Today, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball.
