A car carrier caught fire at a Scott County rest area Wednesday morning.

The driver of the car hauler says he was heading southbound along I-75 when a tire blew on the trailer. When he pulled into the rest area, he inspected the blown tire and noticed it was smoking slightly, but he didn't see any flames. The driver says he went to the restroom and when he returned the trailer was on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but it damaged three cars on the hauler. Crews also had to drain hydraulic fluid to prevent it from leaking and causing environmental problems. Firefighters say the blaze was difficult to fight due to the multi-level configuration of the trailer.

There were no reported injuries.
