(AP) - Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler has more than twice as much campaign cash in the bank as a Republican rival who nearly unseated him two years ago and wants a rematch next year.
But the two were nearly neck-and-neck in fundraising in the past three months, though Republican Andy Barr didn't get into the race until late in the period.
Chandler's campaign-finance report shows the congressman in Kentucky's 6th District raised $228,727 in the three months ending June 30. Chandler had $561,419 in the bank at the end of the quarter.
Barr reports raising $197,213 in the same period. Barr had $202,988 on hand at the end of the quarter.
The two waged one of the nation's closest congressional races in 2010, when Chandler won by a mere 648 votes.
