A cashier injured when a car with a child behind the wheel crashed into a Laurel County truck stop Tuesday afternoon has been released from the hospital.
Police say a 4-year-old child was behind the wheel of the black Honda when it slammed through a window at the 49'er Truck Stop, pinning Tina Tyree, 36, between a counter and a wall. A witness says Jayden Ward crawled from the back to the front seat when the driver went inside the truck stop. Police say the 4-year-old's grandmother was in the car with him, but couldn't reach the boy before he put the car in drive.
Tyree suffered internal injuries and cuts to her legs. She was airlifted to UK Hospital.
"There was so much dust, and the main thing I was trying to do was get her unpinned," Roy Berry said. "It happened so fast, she couldn't find out what was going on."
The boy's grandmother and another child inside the car were not injured.
