Cold Causing Water Outages In Owsley County

The bitter cold weather is wreaking havoc on the water system in Owsley County.

Booneville officials say water pumps at the river are freezing, causing water outages throughout the county. According to a post on the Booneville Facebook page, crews continue to work on the pumps.

"Our pump supplier and manufactures have been breaking the river pumps down over the past few hours," an official wrote in a Facebook post around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials have issued boil water advisories for the following areas,

Hwy 11 North Tank, affecting Pebworth to Lee Co. Fox Hunters knob. Elk Lick Tank affecting Vincent, Bowling Town, Marcum Ridge, and Water Street. HWY 11 South (Betty Boman) affecting Levi Areas, Scoville Area. Fish Trap Hill Tank affecting the areas of Cow Creek, Indian Creek, Wolf Creek, Bear Run and Split Poplar areas.

Officials say residents who lose water should consider themselves under a boil water advisory when service is restored.
