Community Gathers To Honor Hazard Shooting Victims

A community gathered Monday in Perry County to say a final goodbye to three people shot and killed last week outside of a school.

At the John C. Combs Arena in Hazard, the visitation for Jackie, Caitlin, and Taylor Cornett took place Monday, and the parking lot was packed with people, some who didn't even know the victims.

Caitlin Cornett, 20, her 53-year-old uncle, Jackie and Jackie's 12-year-old daughter, Taylor were shot last Tuesday night in the parking lot of Hazard Community And Technical College.

Dalton Stidham is accused of pulling the trigger. Caitlin and Jackie were pronounced dead on the scene. Taylor died the following day at UK Hospital. Investigators have said Stidham bought the gun hours before the shooting, which apparently happened as Stidham and Caitlin Cornett met to exchange custody of their two-year-old son.

Friends, family members and even complete strangers turned out for Monday's services, which was scheduled to be followed by the funeral for the three victims.
