Controversial Billboard Removed From Busy Lexington Road

It's been less than a week since a controversial billboard condemning homosexuality and abortion was put up along a busy Lexington road. Now, the billboard is gone, and appears to have turned up defaced.

That billboard reads "homosexuality is an abomination" and "abortion is murder" along with references to scripture. Members of the small, Georgetown-based Bluegrass Church Of Christ say they paid almost $8,000 for the message to be up for one year along New Circle Road near the Leestown Road exit, but less than a week later, it's gone.

Apparently, the billboard showed up inside Trust Lounge in downtown Lexington, hanging on the wall with drawings of devils, including horns, pitchforks, and barcodes. The drawings are similar to the ones seen on a nearby billboard.

An employee at Trust Lounge originally told LEX 18 an anonymous person dropped it off, but the owners then called and said it was actually a replica created for an art display.

Church members say they want to person responsible to pay.

Lexington police say the figures drawn on the billboard are very similar to those seen in graffiti found in downtown Lexington last year.
