A convicted murderer is accused of trying to kidnap a Laurel County girl this weekend. The accused talked from behind bars to LEX 18.
"I never did nothing to that girl. I thought it was her mom, I thought it was her mom for the longest time," Carl Miller said from the Laurel County Detention Center. Miller was arrested Friday for an unrelated alcohol charge. Later, authorities connected him to an attempted kidnapping investigation.
Miller told LEX 18 he never touched the girl, nor did he even get close to her.
A 15-year-old girl, though, tells authorities that Miller offered her drugs and made sexual comments towards her, then eventually grabbed her arm and tried to pull her away. The teen says she escaped and ran for help. Miller claims his truck simply got stuck in the family's driveway and he only spoke to the girl from a distance.
This isn't Miller's first time in jail. He spent 13 years behind bars for his role in a man's death in 1989. Now, he fears a return. Residents along American Greetings Card Road in Corbin also have their fears.
"You never know what runs up and down this road," says Terry Bingham, a nearby resident. Bingham is a grandfather to a couple of young girls, and he says he tries to do his best to keep an eye on them. "You just have to be aware of your surroundings. Who goes by and who pulls in and who stops and sees you, you never know," says Bingham.
