The Wolfe County coroner has released the name of the man who died Tuesday while rappelling in the Red River Gorge.
Officials tell LEX 18 the man is 45-year-old Robert Curtin of Delaware. The coroner's office says the man fell about 40 feet while rappelling in the Muir Valley area, but his safety harness caught him. His 15-year-old son and others were able to get him down, but it was too late.
Investigators are looking into the possibility Curtin may have had a medical condition that led to his death, or whether he died as a result of the fall.
