Former UK big man DeMarcus Cousins reportedly impressed some folks playing as a member of the USA men's Select Team.
The Select Team scrimmaged the USA Men's National squad leading up to the selection of the final Olympic team.
"We'll utilize this team of select NBA players to help get our National Team ready for the very competitive summer that is ahead of us," Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball chairman said of the Select Team.
USA basketball coaches and NBA observers were complimentary of Cousins' efforts during the training camp.
"He's a super talent. He can make shots. He gets rebounds. I told him that if he ever gets to where's he's in great shape, running the floor, there's no reason he wouldn't get be able to get 15 to 20 rebounds a game. He just has a knack for eating up space and he has a knack for the ball. If you get that many rebounds a game, you find yourself in double-digit scoring, too," select team coach Jay Triano said.
Cousins has expressed interest in playing on future national teams, eyeing the 2014 FIBA World Championships.
"If it happens, I will gladly accept," he said after the camp. "If not, I had run. I improved every day. Overall, it was a good experience. Today went well. Another competitive day. We battled Olympians."
Sacramento Bee sports writer Ailene Voisin reports Cousins spent a lot of time talking with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and the other Olympians during the week, and a USAB official said the porgress of the former Wildcat was a major dinner topic conversation on Tuesday.
The USA Select Team also featured forner UK point guard John Wall.
