Cutler Comments: Cal Blows Out Pearl 74-45

After Tennessee got off to an 18-4 start when they last played, the first five minutes were a big concern for Cal in UK's second game of the SEC Tournament.

When Darius Miller gave UK a 10-4 lead, Cal knew his players were listening.

"I love our energy," said Cal.

"I love our toughness."

The Cats led 32-19 at the half. That's the lowest scoring half for Tennessee this season.

Led by DeMarcus Cousins, who didn't even pick up a foul in the first 20 minutes, UK was in control at the half 32-19, and busted it open late in the game thanks to some clutch three point shooting.

Cousins ended up with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Throw in 3 steals and 2 blocks, Cousins was a force.

"There is not a better big man out there," says Cal.

With tough defense and terrific shooting, UK blows out Tennessee 74-45.

Eric Bledsoe, who was 5 of 8 from downtown, and grabbed four rebounds was second for UK with 17.

John Wall came close to a double double with 14 points and 9 assists. Wall, who led everyone with 6 rebounds at the half, finished with 6. With Cousins owning the glass in the second half, Wall could concentrate on dishing to his teammates.

After getting embarrassed by Alabama on the boards, UK bounced back winning that battle 40-26.

When UK shoots like this they seem unbeatable. The Cats hit 25 of 48 shots for 52%. That included 8 of 22 from downtown for 36%.

Tennessee played like the rims were very small. They hit only 17 of 55 for 31%. That included 2 of 15 from downtown for 13%.

Scotty Hopson was the only Tennessee player in doubles with 11.

With the score 50-41 UK, after a double technical on Daniel Orton and Wayne Chism, Darnell Dodson put the game away scoring all eight of his points in a row. After hitting two 3's, Dodson finished the break after a Tennessee turnover on a sweet pass from Darius Miller.

When Tennessee's pep band cranking out "Rocky Top", UK fans were were trying to drown it out, chanting, "Go Big Blue."

It was rough and nasty. Melvin Goins was tossed from the game after he threw an elbow at Cousins. Cousins received a technical for yelling back at Goins after his cheap shot.

In the first half, Cal got into it with Daniel Orton, who ended up leaving the bench and going to the locker room. He was talked back to the court by UK assistant Scott Padgett.

Cal and DeMarcus Cousins also got into it, but one of Cal's strengths is putting blowups behind him quickly. After the game, Cal was talking about how he saw Cousins smile during the game.

Although Cal will downplay it, outside of Rick Pitino, there is no one he likes beating more than Tennessee's Bruce Pearl.

Kentucky plays the winner of Mississippi State-Vandy Sunday at 1pm.
