1977 was one of the greatest seasons in UK football history. It was the best season since Bear Bryant left Lexington after the 1953 season. UK was not only 10-1, but they are the only team in UK history to go undefeated in the SEC.
Only two teams scored 20 points on UK in 1977, Baylor who beat UK, and Penn State. UK was down 10-0 when Dallas Owens made one of the great plays in UK history with an interception return for a touchdown. UK won 24-20. It was the only loss for Penn State that season.
Dallas Owens was a very talented, and very tough football player who went to Lafayette High. He died on Sunday after losing his battle with brain tumors. This is Owens great play that changed the 1977 season.
