Lafayette junior Jackson Davis hit the game-winner with time running off the clock to lift the Generals to a 65-64 upset win over No.5 Henry Clay Friday night.
"Well, I knew there wasn't very much time on the clock...I just got the ball, and for a second I thought I lost it, and as time expired, I just got off the best shot I could," he said. "It's awesome to watch the ball drop."
Davis finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and a couple of blocked shots.
"This was so much fun. This was one of the best games I've ever played in," Davis said.
Lafayette coach Michael Mendenhall said the plan was to slow the game down.
"We just wanted to slow the tempo down, take advantage of our size inside, and we were able to do that tonight," he said. "Tonight we couldn't run with these guys. They've got some thoroughbreds, but we knew we had some big Clydesdales and we wanted to make it a slow race.
The victory improved the General to 12-8.
Henry Clay dropped to 18-4.
