If you are voting for the best player in the SEC, there is no need to vote. As of today, it's Anthony Davis.
Remember when he had trouble making a free throw?
Remember when his shooting percentage from the field was better than his free throw percentage?
In SEC games, he's hit 88%. And no, it's not good enough to be tops in SEC games. Third isn't bad.
But, Davis is at the top of the list in three categories: scoring, field goal percentage and of course blocked shots during league games.
As every True Blue fan knows, Davis leads the world in blocked shots for the season. What makes this even more impressive is that Davis is averaging about one more block per game in league games.
To top it off, his attitude is as good as it gets.
"I just want to go out there and help my team win," says the great freshman.
"Whatever Coach Cal wants me to do, I'll do. I try not to do anymore than he tells me because it's been working thus far. I've been trying to listen to him."
Cal knows he's lucky to coach him.
"And he's been really good about letting us bring him along at a pace where you are not seeing a whole lot of bad stuff," says Cal. "You are seeing some good."
When the media shows up for interviews before practice, you see Teague, Jones, Lamb and Davis shooting extra shots with assistant coach Kenny Payne. There is a lot going on that the media doesn't see. When you think about everything Davis has to do with school and practice, this number surprised me when I asked him how many extra shots he's getting up everyday.
"Ah, minimum of 500," says Davis.
Syracuse is undefeated and number one. They can still get better. But, when you look at the Kentucky, they can still get a lot better.
