A Powell County deputy jailer finds himself on the other side of the law. Paul Wayne Roberts is behind bars, charged with soliciting prostitution.

As a Powell County deputy jailer, he's supposed to book inmates into the detention center, but recent allegations against 60-year-old Paul Wayne Roberts indicate he was trying to do more than just that. According to sheriff's deputies, a woman came into the sheriff's office last week telling them Robets was trying to solicit sex from her. Deputies say they set up a sting overnight Thursday into early Friday, using that woman and caught Roberts red-handed.

"It doesn't surprise me because he's been like that," says Judy Parkhill, the alleged victim's grandmother. "I was sitting here like I am now and he would motion for her to come to his truck and I said, if you want anything from her, take a piece of me."

Parkhill says the situation happened over and over again and she filed charges. Parkill says Roberts' job as deputy jailer was put in jeopardy, but sources close to the situation say the charges against him were eventually dropped and he was allowed to return to work.

"They should have gotten rid of him and never let him back at work, period," says Parkill.

Sheriff's deputies say the latest situation involved Roberts soliciting sex from the woman inside the RCC building, where state inmates are housed.

Deputies say he tried to solicit from that same woman, at least two other times before she came forward. Parkhill is hopeful this time, the charges against Roberts won't be dropped. "In due time, he'll get what's coming to him," she says.

Roberts remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a $5,000 full-cash bond.
