Police say two deputy jailers have been indicted by a Perry County Grand Jury following an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
Evidence was presented to the grand jury on Friday resulting in indictments being returned against Damon Hickman, age 36 of Hazard, and William C. Howell, age 57, of Estill in Floyd County. The indictment warrants were returned Tuesday.
Police say both Hickman and Howell voluntarily surrendered to detectives Tuesday at the Kentucky State Police Post in Hazard. Each was charged with one count of manslaughter first degree in connection with the July 9, 2013 death of inmate Larry Trent.
Hickman and Howell were lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail. The incident remains under investigation by KSP Post 13, in Hazard.
