Don't Sweat It

This issue's professional: Vida , a colorist at Devachon Salon in SoHo, which specializes in curly hair.

Question: When I work out, my hair gets dirty a lot faster. I hate having to wash and style my hair everyday just so I can exercise. Is sweat making my hair greasier?

Answer:Sweat is just salt water coming out of your body, so it's not making your hair greasier. Sweat only becomes nasty when it comes in contact with outside elements. When you shampoo, you wash natural oils from your scalp and hair. Your body then tries to put the oils back -- that's why it feels greasier. Try washing your hair every other time after a workout. Massage your scalp while you're rinsing with warm water. And when you condition, just do the ends, not your scalp.
