Dunbar Baseball Team Unveils Warm-Ups Honoring Injured Player

On Tuesday night, the Paul Laurence Dunbar baseball team unveiled new warm-ups honoring a teammate injured in a swimming accident in Florida last week.

The Bulldogs debuted the new gear featuring Travis Gaines' name and number before their game against Lexington Catholic. It was the team's first matchup since returning from a spring break tournament in Fort Walton Beach. Gaines was injured there while diving in the surf. He remains hospitalized in a Florida hospital and faces the possibility of permanent paralysis.

Some friends and family wrote his number 19 on their hands, and others donated money to a fund set up in his name. The team will wear the new warm-ups before every game.

"We stuck together like a team, and we've cried together. We've hugged together. We've laughed together, and we're going to get through it with Travis and looking forward to a speedy recovery for him." Dunbar coach Larry Poynter said.

The Bulldogs knocked off the Knights 3-1 to improve to 10-2 on the year.
