ELKHORN CITY, Ky. (AP) - The mayor of an eastern Kentucky city says he's not sure why recent water bills haven't been paid, but he's hoping to set things right by next week.
Elkhorn City Mayor Mike Taylor told the Appalachian News-Express (http://bit.ly/UKyuBh) that he's "bum-fuzzled" about why the city owes $35,000 to the Mountain Water District. The newspaper cited financial documents it obtained through an open records request in reporting the amount of the debt.
Taylor said he only recently became aware of the issue and plans to discuss it with the City County at its regular meeting on Tuesday and make sure the issue gets taken care of.
The Mountain Water District says the debt will increase to $51,000 if it's not paid by the end of October.
