Effort To Name Street For Fallen Officer Rejected

The proposal to rename a Lexington street in honor of a fallen police officer has been denied.

The city's addressing committee turned down the request to rename Hilo Street, "Durman Drive."  Hilo street runs in front of central sector roll call, a place officer Bryan Durman checked in before each shift.

Durman was killed April 29th in a hit and run, while responding to a noise complaint.  Officer Durman's wife calls the decision not to rename the street frustrating.

Glenn Coneghy, the man accused of hitting and killing officer Durman, has plead not guilty.
