Eastern Kentucky University senior Mike DiNunno was named as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Sunday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters.
The award is the first-ever for the Chicago native.
DiNunno led all players in scoring in both of Eastern's games last week. In addition to averaging 22 points and four assists per game, the senior shot 44 percent from the field, 53 percent from three-point range and 93 percent from the free throw line.
He set a new season-high with 22 points at North Carolina A&T. He matched his season-best with 22 points again in the Colonels' road win at High Point. DiNunno also had five rebounds, five assists and only one turnover in 38 minutes. He made all six of his attempts from the free throw line, including 4-of-4 in the final 30 seconds to secure the victory.
DiNunno ranks first in the OVC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3), fourth in assists (4.6/game), seventh in steals (1.8/game) and 12th in scoring (14.4 points/game).
The Colonels will return to action on December 30 at West Virginia. The game will be televised on WTVQ. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
