Police say an elderly man was killed Monday afternoon in a collision between two vehicles in Knott County.
The accident happened at about 4:20 p.m. on Highway 550 in the Lackey community of Knott County. Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck driven by Nero Patton, 89, of Mousie crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by James Smith. Patton was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle.
Patton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County coroner. Smith was airlifted from the scene to St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where he was reported to be in fair condition.
The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police.
