An elderly Pulaski County man has been hospitalized after he was burned trying to extinguish a fire in a wooded area that got out of control.
The incident happened Monday at an area off the Northern Crossing area in Eubank. Officials say Dexter Mobley, 75, of Eubank was burning material in a burn barrel when the debris from the fire blew out of the burn barrel and jumped to the nearby woods. The fire spread quickly because it was fueled by dry leaves and grass.
The area where the fire occurred is currently under a burn ban due to dry conditions.
Mobley was airlifted to UK Hospital, where his current condition is unknown.
Last week, a Rockcastle County man died in a similar incident after an out-of-control brush fire burned 95% of his body. Robert Childress, 64, was found on November 14 outside his home in Mount Vernon. He later died at UK Hospital from the injuries he suffered in the brush fire.
