An elderly woman who was hurt in a head-on collision between a car and van in northeast Lexington Monday morning has died.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Man O' War Boulevard and Sir Barton Way. Police say it appears the elderly woman, who was driving a red Camry, had some sort of medical emergency and drifted into the white carrier van, hitting it head-on. The van has very little damage, and the driver was not hurt.
The woman driving the Camry was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead
The woman also had a dog with her, and a family member came to pick it up.
Police say when they arrived the woman was unconscious.
The coroner has not released the identity of the woman pending family notification.
The scene was cleared just before 11:30 a.m.
