Ellis Signs Deal With Dodgers

Former Dunbar star A.J. Ellis and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract on Friday.

In his first full major league season (2012), Ellis hit .270 with 13 home runs in 133 games. Ellis led the team in on-base percentage (.373) and walks (65).

The Dodgers selected Ellis (Austin Peay University) in the 18th round of the 2003 MLB Draft. He didn't make his major league debut until 2008.

From 2008-2011, Ellis began each season in the minors. He was called-up to the Dodgers at some point in each of those seasons until 2012 when he was named the team's regular starting catcher.
