ERLANGER, Ky. (AP) - A northern Kentucky man is raising money to continue the fight against polio.
John Salyers, who heads the Florence Rotary Club, says he is just one of many working to eradicate the disease. He joined five other members of Rotary International's Polio Eradication Task Force last year with a hope of rid the world of the disease by 2018.
Since joining, Salyers has spoken to thousands of people in an effort to raise money for the endeavor.
The World Health Organization says only 11 cases in three countries around the world had been reported this year through the end of March.
Fundraising efforts to eradicate the disease continue next month with a concert fundraiser on May 13 at Florence Baptist Church.
