Authorities are looking for the gunman who killed an Estill County man inside his own home.
Investigators say the body of 50-year-old Jackie Rogers was found Thursday afternoon inside the man's basement on Ticky Fork Road in Ravenna.
"I don't think that you could find anybody that would say that he wasn't a nice fella," said Hershel Clay Hatton, the uncle of Jackie Rogers. "He was more like a son than a nephew."
Hatton was the one who found Rogers dead Thursday in the home's basement, when he went to check on his nephew who hadn't shown up to work in several days.
"I don't see why anybody would have a reason to just up and kill him," Hatton said.
"It's something that you don't never expect. Especially not up here on the creek. And especially to happen to someone like Jackie," said Roger's cousin, Matthew Watson, who lives just down the street. "For someone to come in and do such an awful thing to someone that would have no harsh words to say to anybody, it's just outrage."
Investigators said Rogers was shot several times and his body had likely been in the home for days.
"I'm interested in the law finding out who done it, really," Hatton said. "I know one thing. I'm gonna miss him."
According to State Police, no arrests have been made in this homicide investigation. Investigators do say they are in the process of questioning people.
Rogers' body has been taken to Frankfort for an autopsy. Funeral arrangements are pending.
