Officials say dust may have sparked an explosion inside the office of a Lexington concrete plant early Wednesday morning.
A worker was loading a truck with mortar mix at the Cemex Kosmos Cement Plant off Delaware Avenue around midnight when he heard the explosion and called 911. The force of the blast blew a door open and bent the frame. It also sparked a small fire inside the building.
Nobody was inside the office at the time, and there were no reported injuries.
The blast remains under investigation, but Jim Nantz of the Lexington Fire Department says flammable dust might have ignited.
"There is a possibility that the dust has been leaking in there, and potentially found a fire source and got lit off," he said.
Officials say the interior of the office was a complete loss.
